The Father & The Son in Perfect Harmony
Have you ever taken time to ponder the Trinity? The Bible reveals God has triune yet it makes no attempt to do so mathmatically but by way of relationship. In this teaching, Pastor Nathan looks at the nature of our triune God as revealed in the relationship between the Father and His Son, Jesus.
The Trinity: One God in Three Persons
Monotheism
Christianity believes in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Trinity).
Trinity
The Trinity consists of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.
Perfect Unity
The Trinity represents the most sacred, holy, and perfect loving relationship conceivable.
Roles Within the Trinity
1
The Father
The decreeing, governing head who entrusts judgment to the Son.
2
The Son
The agent and expression of the Father's will, given authority to judge.
3
The Holy Spirit
Works in harmony with the Father and Son in the work of redemption.
Divine Vulnerability: Jesus Reveals God's Nature
Submission
The Son submits to the headship of the Father, doing only what the Father does.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing." John 5:19a
Equality
The Son is equal to the Father in Godness, sharing all divine attributes.
For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise." John 5:19b
Love
The relationship between Father and Son is characterized by perfect love.
For the Father loves the Son… John 5:20a
Trust
The Father discloses everything to the Son.
“…shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel." John 5:20b
Sharing
The Father shares His work through the Son.
"For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will." John 5:21
Jesus has been eternally given the power of life
"The Father shares the work of life giving with the Son so that we see that redemption the work of redemption is not just a work of Jesus, but a work of the triune God." -Pastor Nathan
Divine Vulnerability: Continued
Roles
The Father has entrusted judgement to the Son.
For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, John 5:22
Selflessness
The Father seeks to honor the Son.
that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. John 5:23a
Reverence
The Son bears the name of the Father.
Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. John 5:23b
Exclusive
The Son is the door to the Father.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. John 5:24
Invitation
The Father and Son offer what they themselves enjoy.
Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. John 5:25
Implications of the Trinity in Christian Living
Relationships
Our relationships should reflect the characteristics of the Trinity: love, trust, selflessness, and reverence.
Marriage
Roles and responsibilities in marriage reflect the divine relationship within the Godhead. Equal yet distinct.
Church Community
The church should embody the unity and love seen in the Trinity. Redeemed by the Son and empowered by the Spirit to glorify the Father by loving and serving one another.
The Promise of Eternal Life

Open Invitation
God invites all to share in the divine relationship through Christ.

Love Offered
The Father and Son offer the love they enjoy to all who believe.

Eternal Joy
Believers will enjoy an eternal relationship with God in heaven.
Have you trusted in Christ for salvation?
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:8–13
